The HFW2431S-S-S2 displays images in Full HD 2688×1520 resolution. The camera features 120 dB Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), allowing it to deal very well with complex lighting conditions due to backlighting from the sun or car headlights, for example. The camera sensor has Starlight Technology making it ideal for applications with challenging lighting conditions.

Because of the highly light-sensitive image sensor, the camera still delivers usable colour images with minimal ambient light, even in almost complete darkness (0.008 lux). The camera has a built-in automatic IR-cut filter, making it a true day/night camera. In dark conditions, the camera can switch on the built-in IR illumination, providing a razor-sharp image even in complete darkness (0 Lux). The IR lighting has a range of no less than 30 metres.
The camera features a fixed 2.8mm lens with a horizontal angle of view of 102 degrees.

Images can be stored on a Network Video Recorder (NVR), among other things. The camera also has the ability to record to a microSD memory card of up to 256Gb.

Dahua has a free Dutch-language app available for Apple iOS and Android. The camera has an internal web server that can be viewed and managed using a web browser. Free Video Management Software (VMS) for a computer can be downloaded from Dahua's website. The "Documentation" tab includes a link to the manufacturer's product page.

The HFW2431S-S-S2 has an IP67 rating, making the camera ideally suited for outdoor use. For ease of installation, the camera can be powered via the network cable with Power over Ethernet (standard 802.3af POE). PoE can be obtained through a PoE NVR, a PoE switch or with a PoE injector. The camera can also be powered by an optional 12VDC power adapter. The camera is adjustable over 3 axes.
